Hope Magnet

Just a fun happy for the ladies I visit teach. December's message I focused on Hope and the the comments by Sister Julie B. Beck (RS Gen Pres). I prepared the following handout.

As Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we have 3 great HOPEs

1. Hope in the Atonement of Jesus Christ
2. Hope in the Resurrection
3. Hope of Eternal Life

Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”

Romans 15: 13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

I then made a little magnet ( about 3 1/2 " tall) with the 3 things we hope for written out. I used one of the little wooden letters with the magnets embedded in the back. I traced the letter 'H' and cut out some scrapbook paper and then put a decorative brad in the upper corner. I glued the paper to the letter and then went around the edges with one of my small ink pads. Then I wrote the three things with a fine tip marker.

Yeh! I was the First person to use our SWEET snowblower.

It only took me about 20 minutes of pulling on the crank to realize there was a plug for the POWER start option. So after running a cord and getting it running- I practiced on my driveway and then was having so much FUN I proceeded to plow both of our neighbors driveways.

OKAY, THIS NEEDS AN EXPLANATION

Yeah, so we finally got our first real snow of the season, and the only car we have running is the Jeep, soooo being a TRUE Sorensen, and having that particular trait that drives us to act NOW and not wait (I think they call it impatience?) I decided to roll the car out of the garage and into the drive way so I could park in the garage and out of the now. Things were going great when all of a sudden the steering wheel locked up and I couldn't turn the wheel so the car would coast right into the spot I had prepared for it. Luckily the trashcan, bushes, and fence allowed it to come to a gentle stop. So then I decided to try to jump it - that was a NO GO! So I backed up the car a bit more so I could pull the Jeep into the garage and use the tow strap to maneuver the car.

This was the closest I came to the house.

So I pulled it forward - then pushed it back (inching my way closer to success).

FINALLY! What a Workout! And by the way - I did this all in my pajamas :) What a crazy girl!
Just to clarify where my men were - we are actually down to one car so I have been a taxi driver in my spare time (like I have any) so I had just dropped everyone off - Tom at work, Charlie at school, Meagan at school, and Trey lives on campus. I just was too impatient to wait for them to get home that night because I wasn't sure just how much snow would be packed in my driveway.

SOOO Much Fun!

Mom and Dad came up early to stay with us a few days. It was so much fun. Mom and I got to playing on the computer one evening - pretty sure we were slap-happy! Anyway, I thought I would share the laughs. Enjoy;)

Tree Trimming

We had a special visitor for our tree trimming on Thursday. Steve showed up from St. George to surprise Meagan so we put him to work helping Tom put the lights on the tree, it was nice to have someone so tall to hang the lights. We got the tree decorated and then enjoyed our traditional post-tree-trimming desert - donuts and cider. The boys were feeling very goofy as you can tell. We had a good time and the tree looks great!

St George Trip 2008

St George HERE WE COME!

Meagan and I have been planning a trip to St. George to see Les Miserables at the Tuacahn since early summer. We finally made it! We participated in the St. George Mayors Walk (2.2 miles) on Saturday morning. It rained the entire time so we walked under an umbrella - I think our hands were more tired than our legs from holding the umbrella. They had fresh scones for us to enjoy at the end of the walk - YUM! Bring back any memories you Sorensens? I had mine with butter and honey all melted and mushed together INSIDE. Just the way I like them. After getting warmed up in the shower we enjoyed the morning session of conference.

We stayed with the parents of one of Meagan's friends. He comes home from his mission on the 30th. We had a very enjoyable time. We left a bit early to go and see the St George Temple. We actually got a very nice tour from Alisyn's mother who is serving a mission at the visitors center. It is always nice to see a familiar, smiling face.

We had dinner at the Tuacahn and it was still raining - just a sprinkle. When the show began it was still - you guessed it - sprinkling. About 20 minutes in to the show the rain stopped and it warmed up quite a bit. The theatre is amazing with the red rock back drop and the live animals they are able to incorporate into the plays, and the performers were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We thought we would be fine through the end of the play and then with about 20-25 minutes remaining the wind started blowing very hard and then the rain just came pouring down (45•), so just as soon as the show was over - so were we!

Arizona Trip

I had a wonderful time with Meagan the past two weekends. The last weekend in September we drove to our friends the Flaggs who live in Las Vegas, Nevada. After spending the evening a part of the next morning, we headed on down to Phoenix. We stopped at Hoover Dam to take picture of the new bridge - it is insanely high!! I tried to get a closeup with the camera so we could see the workers. It is so large that even with my new zoom lens you can barely see the workers - but it gives a great persective on the height. I told Meagan this was like seeing the Brooklyn Bridge be built!
Once across the border into Arizona we had a slight detour in Wickenburg and ended up going back up to Flagstaff and then on to Phoenix/Mesa area. We got to stay with Angie and her family for a few night and it was alot of fun. The kids were so much fun to be around and Riley got up close and personal with Meagan on our first night there ;)!
Saturday Meagan helped her uncle Brian with his booth at the home show and then we went to a Diamondbacks game with Angie and Justin - THEY WON! That made it worth the trip even though they were out of the playoffs. (We made sure to eats lots of GOOD Mexican food while we were there.
Sunday morning we had breakfast with Tom and Jody and then we headed up to Happy Jack to see G&G Sorensen and Jeff's family, we even got to ride the new Razor - and fortunately, we stayed in one piece. It was so nice to be up in the mountains and around a campfire. Meagan particularly liked being able to shower and get cozy with grandma and watch a movie (her kind of camping).
Monday morning it was off to Utah again. She wasn't feeling to well and fortunately grandma had some motion-sickness pills for her to take. They really helped. It was such fun for me to spend some time alone with my girl. We took the 89A route through Vermillion Cliffs and got out and walked around at the Navajo Bridge National Park. What a beautiful piece of country! We made it home to our boys and tried to rest up a bit for the next weekend.
